Episode Title: Building Success from Life's Rubble Embracing Change with Openness
Discussion Topic: When life hits like a hurricane, it's not the winds that determine our survival, but our ability to find shelter and rebuild. That's the essence of what you'll grasp from my profound conversation with Drew Deraney, a home business entrepreneur who transformed his grief into a guiding light for others. Drew's candid reflection on enduring a divorce, job displacement, his son's mental health battle, and the loss of his patriarch strips back the layers of resilience needed to weather the storm of life's toughest challenges. He's not just a survivor; he's a beacon for anyone navigating their crises, illuminating the path to rediscover purpose and principles like honesty, integrity, and truth.
Our dialogue also ventures into the transformative power of emotional wellness, especially for men who've been taught to armor up against vulnerability. We tackle the Mindful Man Movement, dissecting how redefining strength to include openness and compassion can heal and create a kinder world. Drew's insight into the neurological disparities between genders in stroke recovery inspires a broader discussion on how we can adapt to life's seismic shifts and author our unique narratives. If you aim to construct a life marked by success, fulfillment, and the courage to embrace change, let Drew's story alongside our weekly insights guide you to the home business triumph you're seeking.
Hi, I'm Drew Deraney, the proud father of three, and for most of my life I was concerned with what people thought of me and how I was supposed to act.
In a 9-month span a few years ago, I endured four faith-shaking life events that caused me to question my existence. I realized it was a commonality for men to consider any challenge a weakness as well as to show emotion and ask for help. While writing my book, I realized I was not the only man suffering in silence.
I was determined to find a better way to live. With more clarity of purpose than ever, I began asking for help. Through intense self-reflection and awareness, I realized that in order to be happy, I must adhere to my standards of honesty, integrity and truth and needed to break free from the belief system that was anchored in me for close to 50 years.
Now a self-discovery coach, my men's group and coaching provide a safe space for men to learn to tap into their natural power through self-discovery to lead their life, write their story and live the life they want to live.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ where I still live to this day caring for my elderly mom and my 3 adult children Matthew, Nicholas, and Emma. I earned my B.A. in Psychology, M.A. in Applied Psychology, and two psychology research publications while at Fairfield University; a scholarship from the Healthcare Financial Management Association; and my M.B.A. in Health Care Administration from Baruch College / Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NY. My hospital career spanned 24 years where I was co-chair of the Leadership Institute, spoke at JD Power, was one of three leaders interviewed by The Commonwealth Fund, received my Communicating with Empathy Trainer certification and is a Certified Patient Experience Professional. Four years ago, I founded Profit Compassion LLC, an entity to coach and empower mostly men to create resiliency and authenticity as Chief Resilience Officer. I am the podcast host of
‘From Caving in to Crushing It’
and recently became a best-selling author with my #1 International Best Selling book
‘I’ll Have What She’s Having’ - Memoir of a reformed People Pleaser.
